To round up a joint Finance Ministry and IMF symposium, German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble was joined in discussion on Wednesday, 25 March 2015, by Vitor Gaspar, a former Portuguese finance minister and Head of the IMF’s Fiscal Affairs Department, and Vito Tanzi, a former member of the Italian government and renowned academic. Mr Gaspar and Mr Tanzi are two figures who have significantly informed the international debate about the balance between sustainable fiscal consolidation and growth-enhancing structural reforms.

Angela Wefers, head of Börsen-Zeitung’s Berlin editorial office, chaired the discussion.

Through our Finance Ministry in Dialogue events, we are creating a forum for policymakers, academics and practitioners to exchange ideas about current fiscal policy challenges.
