Minister and State Secretaries

The German Finance Minister directs the Ministry in line with the policy framework defined by the German Chancellor. He is the member of government responsible for all aspects of Germany’s fiscal and tax policy, the general scope of economic and monetary policy, and the preparation of the federal budget and financial plan.

    The Detlev Rohwedder Building, located in the Wilhelmstraße in Berlin’s historical government quarter, has been the head office of the German Finance Ministry since 1999.

    The visitors’ service welcomes groups who are interested in the ministry’s work. Visitors have the opportunity to talk directly to ministry staff (in German or, where possible, in English) and learn more about the ministry’s tasks, working methods and goals.

Detlev Ro­hwed­der Build­ing

The Detlev Rohwedder Building has been the head office of the German Finance Ministry since 1999. It reflects the stages of Germany’s turbulent history more clearly than almost any other building in the capital.
