Germany supports debt service suspension for Ukraine

Together with other official bilateral creditors, Germany intends to participate in a coordinated suspension of the payments that Ukraine makes to service its bilateral debts. This debt service suspension is to be granted for the period from 1 August 2022 until 31 December 2023.

In this context, today’s request from Ukraine – for a concerted suspension of debt service due to bondholders and for an extension of payment maturities – is welcomed. All other official bilateral creditors are encouraged to reach swift agreement with Ukraine regarding a suspension of debt service.

The Group of Creditors of Ukraine includes Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. The planned coordinated debt service suspension will provide Ukraine with additional liquidity.
