Federal Minister of Finance Olaf Scholz is responsible for all aspects of German fiscal and tax policy and determines the broad outline of budgetary policy. In performing these functions, he is supported by two parliamentary state secretaries and four permanent state secretaries.
The Federal Revenue Administration in the narrow sense encompasses the Federal Ministry of Finance as the supreme federal authority, as well as a number of other authorities and agencies.

The Advisory Board (Wissenschaftlicher Beirat) advises the Federal Ministry of Finance by regularly publishing expert opinions and reports on current issues.
